In a peculiar incident in Palghar, Maharashtra, a 20-year-old man allegedly fabricated his own kidnapping story in an attempt to extort money from his father, according to police reports on Sunday. The Valiv police received a complaint from a resident of Fatherwadi in Vasai, stating that his son had left home on December 7 and did not return. A missing case was registered on December 8.

As the police initiated an investigation, the complainant received a call from his son claiming he had been kidnapped by three individuals, held captive, and that a ransom of ₹30,000 was demanded under the threat of harm. The son even sent a QR code for the payment. In response, four police teams were mobilized to search for the young man in Vasai, Virar, Nallasopara, and surrounding areas.

After following various leads, the man was located in Vasai phata on Saturday.
